My name is Oliver Tarvet and I’m 13 years old. I’m one of the older performance players at Batchwood Tennis Academy in St Albans. I typically train for 14 hours a week including 6 hours of squads, 3 hours 30 minutes of coaching and the rest hitting, plus 3 hours of fitness.
I don’t train as many hours as some but I train at high intensity which I think is more important than many hours at low intensity. I live ten minutes away from the centre and I get along with many of the players there and I look forward to every session. We have 6 indoor acrylic courts and 3 tarmac outdoor courts and the benefit of a conditioning gym and a public gym.
This helps me to maintain my strength and power, as well as aiding my recovery. I’ve got two coaches and they help me develop my game in the right way to reach my full potential. I also get good support from my school which allows me to go to train and play competitions in school time.
